Womanizing and Extramarital Affairs

[woman] It's funny: I first got elected in 1990 selling myself as a “Boy Scout” when I was running against Congressman Jim Bates, who was accused of sexual harassment. Boy, little did the voters know I’m just as bad! Don’t think I’m against women. I’m a known womanizer. I enjoy having young female interns around, and let me tell you they are fun to be with! I like to entertain women on by yacht in my PJs and sweater with chilled champagne and lava lamp! Or let me tell you about my affair in the 1980s with Cindy Legan (now Cindy Spadgenberg) at the Camarillo, California Airport. She gave me the “Top Buns” award at a banquet where she introduced me. Or my hitting on women students when I taught at National University. More recently, the FBI is investigating if I spent time with MZM-provided prostitutes at the Westin Grand and Watergate (Wall Street Journal 4/27/2006, p. A-6). I hope my wife doesn’t find out :-).

No Choice for Women

[woman] I’m definitely against letting a mother choose whether to have an abortion (I have a 3% rating from the Reproductive Rights League!). After all, who should control a women’s body? The government or her? Keep ’em barefoot and pregnant, I say! Besides, I’m for family values right? (Well, except for my voting against family leave.) After all, a mom can leave her baby without too much harm; it’s a tough world out there and kids should learn that early on! One year I got a 0% rating from the Children’s Defense Fund.

I’ve voted to outlaw abortions, even in the case of rape or to save the life of the mother. I have a 100% rating from the National Right to Life Committee. As I’ve said on the House floor, “I also want to support the life endangerment of the mother.” [105th Congress, House record, page H1194] I’ve voted in 2005 to not fund the UN Population Fund, which provides family planning and medical care to poor nations.

When a top Army official told Congress about military efforts to combat sexual harassment and discrimination, I called the efforts “BS” because “our kids don’t like . . . political correctness.” [San Diego Union-Tribune, 9/9/1998, pp. B-1,8]
