The Duke may be a confessed felon—he took millions in bribes and cheated on his taxes but at least he never burned the American Flag. Maybe he can get a couple of days credit on his 10 year sentence.

A lot of people have been quoting Johnson in the past few days: "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel". I just can't believe that I was the only one to suspect that Duke's sponsorship of that loathesome "flag burning" amendment was a smokescreen. He'll find it difficult to wrap himself in the flag when he's wearing handcuffs.

Perhaps cynical crooks like Duke wouldn't be so common if people weren't so hung up on symbols instead of what they're supposed to stand for.
