So the San Diego Union Tribune and its establishment cronies throw Cunningham under a bus for a few reasons. One, they can let their own mischief and malfeasance continue while Cunningham makes the news. But most importantly for the “establishment” i.e. developers and money-makers of anything bringing more people (home buyers and consumers) and more tourists to San Diego, if we can’t get a bigger airport we’re going to force it on them. But we also have to get rid of the military guy that has always supported our armed services and their bases here. Cunningham has worn out his welcome with the “establishment” and it’s up to the mouthpiece Union Tribune to send him packing and make the Miramar location available for the San Diego International Airport. That’s right, we need to get that pesky convenient airport by the “big bay” out of there so Corky, Manchester and Sosa can develop it into nice hotels, paid parking, hise rise condos and other “more appropriate uses” and the whiners and secret land owners in Point Loma can finally get some sleep and build some equity. After all, they are tired of the noise! That airport should have never been there! Well Cunningham, it’s too bad the truth is that you’re being thrown under the bus for a greater cause. It’s not that the U-T has any sense of journalistic duty to report any of your behavior in the past, oh no, they always loved you until you got in the way of their airport. Now you have to go!

In case you missed it, there's no land around Lindbergh to expand a second runway. No, Duke's floating pipedream he championed in the 80's for a Navy contractor (smells fishy no???) that had funding pulled isn't going to happen.

And sadly, Cunningham give them the ammunition to get him tossed. Like the song goes, "Throw a nickel on the grass, save a fighter pilots @!#$." Ain't going to happen this time.
