I have been told that if a US congressman or US senator serves one term or more they are entitles to a lifetime pension, Is this true?

No that's not true. They have to have 5 years of service to be vested in the congressional pension plan. A representative's term is only 2 years, so must serve 2 1/2 terms before becoming vested. A full pension occurs after 20 or 25 years of service, depending on age. For details, see the Urban Legends webpage at
