My faith in the system is somewhat restored.

It is nice to know that no one is above the law, even crooks who hide behind an old mantel of legendary war hero.

(Although Cunningham may have gotten away with it all, had it not been for Marcus Stern and the Union-Tribune. God bless Freedom of the Press, and the Fourth Estate.)

This hopefully will not be the end of the story, but a beginning.

This narrow ray of sunshine exposing Cunningham's corruption, and prosecuting these crimes, is rapidly expanding. Let us hope it ultimately exposes all the other corrupt individuals, who by virtue of their power and position, have been secretly feeding at the money-laden trough of the military-industrial complex, for their own personal gain at taxpayer expense.

That Cunningham could continue to thumb his nose so openly and blatantly at the law for so long is troubling. Let us hope with this conviction, it cannot and will not occur anymore. Moreover, let us hope because of this, there is a concerted effort by all – Congress, Justice, Electorate and Taxpayer – to identify, prosecute, and eradicate all corruption in the political and legislative process.

All that may be a tall order, but at least this unprecedented conviction is an "unprecedented" start.
