Email me offline (and provide your email address) if you care to get an interesting perspective from a "Zero's" point of view. I might just change your opinion of some Zero's.
Briefly: In 1970 I went back to Newport, Rhode Island for the second Summer of OCS. 2 months one year, 2 months next year after college. When we mustered the first day, they lined us up in a line abreast, about a hundred plus of us. The first statement was: "Anyone who wants out of their Navy obligation can do so here and now. All you have to do is step forward one pace". AZ2, you should have seen it.....just like the "wave" at football stadiums. I don't think anyone stayed back. Then the head honcho announced: "That will get you out of your Navy obligation, but you are still susceptible to the draft". One again, "the wave", only backwards this time. Guys with real high draft numbers stayed out front and were down the road within days.
Many people did not participate on a ~voluntary basis~. But I know of very few who didn't make light of it, or have a little fun with it like my original post indicated, Khaki OR Denim.
